Mathematics

Today we had Maths with Mrs Tofa. She gave us a warm up lesson that was " 6/4 = 2/4 " which i missed out on but never knew the answer to it. After sometime of the Warm up we then moved on to our actual maths question. The question was " You are making a fruit salad and need 2/3 of a cup of passion fruit. You have a 1/2, 1/4 and a ⅙ sized measuring cup. How will you measure the passion fruit? " For me & my group it was difficult because we didn't really get the problem so we struggled a little bit, then after 15 minutes Mrs Tofa called every in Tahi to the ground to explain their strategy & what they choose. Me & my group just sat their on the mat because we didn't get the Maths Problem that we were given. Me & my group thought about choosing ⅙ because it was the close to 2/3. So we never had anything written on our paper but here is the strategy the other groups did:

Strategy:
2/3 =
2 x 2= 4
2 x 3= 6
= 4/6
so we took it backwards to see if we are right so they did
4/6 ÷ 2 = 2/3

Architecture

WALT: We are learning to create accurate floor plans for building a house.

Malo e Lelei Everybody! Today we are working on our Project Based Learning/Architecture. Firstly we started with searching up a site called https://floorplancreator.net/# to do this Project!

What I learnt from doing this activity is before building a house you need a:

  • How to create a Floor plan
  • Where to put the rooms
  • Accurate measurement of the house
  • If the door opens
  • How much space would be in the house
  • Where the kitchen & Living Room is going to be
  • How big the bathroom & toilet will be

If I joined the building industry I would like to be a painter just like my dad!

Here is the building I created in 2D!

Here is the building I created in 3D!

Kiwican - Term 2 Week 2 2021

Today on the 12th of May 2021 Wednesday, we had our Kiwi can lesson. As we walked in to our school hall our Kiwi Can teachers had a smile on their faces. Our Kiwi Can Teachers names are Mrs Mac & Lina. As we sat on the floor Mrs Mac Greeted us with a Kon'nichiwa and asked where does Kon'nichiwa come from, we all raised our hands and said: Japan!

After we had our little talk we moved on to our energizer. Lina first asked us to get in to a big circle, secondly she told us the instruction for the game. The game was called Splash, the Main version of the game is called Bang but she changed the name. We all stood in a circle as she explained to us how the game works. So the game is simple but a little bit frustrating, but it was still worth it. As we stood in the circle she picked out a boy to come in to the middle as say our names, He then proceeded to start the game. The game was really fun and funny! it was really cool.

Sometime later everyone got down into a circle to answer some questions. Our questions were about some scenarios Mrs. Mack told us about. The questions were mostly about honesty, After we finished answering questions we went into our activity, Animal Farm. Lina split all of us into 4 groups and gave us an animal. She gave each group a specific animal and the beat went like: Doggy Doggy Woofff x2 Doggy Doggy wooff wooff wooff! After some games we sat down for a bit started our G.K.Q. The game went well until Mrs. Mack brought up all the winners. The question was "How many 10 fit into 1000?" After some time of guessing Arman got the answer correct. We then Proceeded to count up our points and we got a 45/50 we just needed 5 more points. The points were given to us by our Respect, Encouragement, Participation & Team Work!!

Sky Tower

 SKY TOWER TRIP!

On Thursday 6th of May 2021 Room 7 went on an AMAZING trip!We went to the SKY TOWER! It was such an amazing experience seeing the New Zealand Auckland from up high, as we were getting prepared to go up we first watched a little movie at the ground level. The first movie was about when and how long it took the builders to build the Sky Tower. After we had watched the movies we then proceeded to go one by one to the toilets, after we went they handed us a booklet which had a bunch of questions about the movies that we watched before heading up.

As we answered the questions that were given to us we then got prepared to go up the elevator to go up to level 51 which was very high but exciting

at the same time. As we were walking towards the

elevator our instructor told us one 10 people at

a time, so only ten people went in each elevator. I was getting very nervous because it was my first time going up the Sky Tower. As I stepped foot into the elevator i got goosebumps, it was frightening and exciting, As we went up the Sky Tower it went all black… then we saw light, it was the windows that show you how far you are going up high, I got so scared and closed my eyes as we went up I looked down and even worse, it showed the bottom of the elevator which sacred me so much I almost screamed!

As we reached the top I walked out of the elevator with my eyes wide open, shocked at the beautiful view! I loved the view so much but what scared me the most was how high up I was, we then started walking around the Sky Tower but then the biggest thing that scared me the most was the thick glass that was 4cm thick which is very strong and thick. The view was breathtaking. I loved it! But didn’t fix the fact that we were so high up looking over Auckland New Zealand. We opened up our Booklets to locate where the mountains were, after we had located all the mountains we sat on the ground and ate our morning tea. Finally we finished our lunch and picked all our rubbish and got ready to go down a level.

We used the stairs to go down to level 45 which was the refuge. The Refuge had no view, just metal everywhere, Maria, who was our instructor explained why they made the level 45 (refuge). After we had a discussion about the refuge we moved on to level 61. Level 61 had the best view out of all levels. We walked out the elevator and Maria told us that apparently we could lean on the glass which I was afraid that the glass would smash if i were to lean on it. But then our student teacher Ms Woodhall helped me boost my confidence and lean  on the window, IT WAS TERRIFYING but at the same time you have to face your fear.

After we had an adventure/exploring up at level 61 we had to go back to level 51. We walked into the elevator but this time there were no windows to look out of the elevator. It was just like a normal elevator. We went back to level 51 and had another adventure then had to take the elevator again to get back to the ground floor, we arrived at the ground floor and sat in 6 lines. Mrs Raj then asked Soane (Head Boy) to come up and say a little thank you to Maria & Cooper. Then we got on the bus and left.

It was such an amazing experience going up high and seeing all the Buildings in Auckland. I loved it so much that I'm still scared to this day!

Thank you & Hope you Enjoyed reading my experience on the Sky Tower.
