Today, Wednesday 30th June 2021. Mrs Tofa taught us what Statistical Maths is. This is my Example!
I am a Year 7 student in Room 10 at Glenbrae School and my teacher is Mr. Nath.
Steps:
1) Your Plan & design
2) Site-check imperfection
3) Equipment/materials
4) Foundation
5) Frame
6) Final touches
Conclusion final thoughts.
Intro- What is a building? a building is a house or a workplace that construction workers build and houses a building made of wood, bricks and work buildings are made of glass.
Step 1: Your planning & designing: For your Planning some people recommend Wood, wood offers a smart natural advantage that comes to building a lot of houses. Wood provides a fresh scent but can damage this situation by cutting too many trees. Why is it good to use Wood for building a house? Well Wood is sustainable, renewable and generally less energy-intensive to process compared to other construction materials, including concrete & steel.
Step 2: Your site checks imperfection: Now you will have to check your site to see if the building can fit on the ground and then make sure that the ground is stable for the house.
Step 3: Equipment/Materials: Your 3rd step is to get all the materials and equipment that you will be needing for the construction. After you have got all your materials you will need to start coming up with ideas.
Step 4: Foundation: Step 4, Foundation. Your Foundation will have to be cement to hold up your building or the house but it is made with concrete with the heat of 1450°c of the heat that will develop on the house.
Step 5: Frame: For your frame pieces of wood or glass will be recommended for the house and fitting also it will be structured and give you the support for the house/building.
Step 6: Final Touches: Your final touches will have to be decorating, gardening & a lot of other things you might want to add, it's your choice just as long as the house it beautiful and comfortable.
Conclusions & Final Thoughts:
When I am older I want to be a Painter & a Builder !!
So today we had Kiwican with only Mrs.Mac, As she walked into class she asked us to sit on the mat in a circle, so we followed her commands. After we settled down she began to give us lessons & activities.
Our first activity was " buddy up " we had to pair up with someone & she will call out "Buddy Up" which meant put your hands on your buddies shoulder & when she says "Buddy Down" we put our hands down, then she'll say "Buddy Sit" which meant sit on your buddies knee. After we had our little activity we had a discussion about our goals. She gave out pieces of paper to write down our Goals for this week & next Week.
My Goals:
- Complete My Projects :)
- Take part in all class activity's !!
- Speak up in class discussions :)
- Stay focused on school !!
- Try out new things :)
- & too not give up !!
Out off all lessons this was the best !! <3

SKY TOWER TRIP!
On Thursday 6th of May 2021 Room 7 went on an AMAZING trip!We went to the SKY TOWER! It was such an amazing experience seeing the New Zealand Auckland from up high, as we were getting prepared to go up we first watched a little movie at the ground level. The first movie was about when and how long it took the builders to build the Sky Tower. After we had watched the movies we then proceeded to go one by one to the toilets, after we went they handed us a booklet which had a bunch of questions about the movies that we watched before heading up.
As we answered the questions that were given to us we then got prepared to go up the elevator to go up to level 51 which was very high but exciting
at the same time. As we were walking towards the
elevator our instructor told us one 10 people at
a time, so only ten people went in each elevator. I was getting very nervous because it was my first time going up the Sky Tower. As I stepped foot into the elevator i got goosebumps, it was frightening and exciting, As we went up the Sky Tower it went all black… then we saw light, it was the windows that show you how far you are going up high, I got so scared and closed my eyes as we went up I looked down and even worse, it showed the bottom of the elevator which sacred me so much I almost screamed!
As we reached the top I walked out of the elevator with my eyes wide open, shocked at the beautiful view! I loved the view so much but what scared me the most was how high up I was, we then started walking around the Sky Tower but then the biggest thing that scared me the most was the thick glass that was 4cm thick which is very strong and thick. The view was breathtaking. I loved it! But didn’t fix the fact that we were so high up looking over Auckland New Zealand. We opened up our Booklets to locate where the mountains were, after we had located all the mountains we sat on the ground and ate our morning tea. Finally we finished our lunch and picked all our rubbish and got ready to go down a level.
We used the stairs to go down to level 45 which was the refuge. The Refuge had no view, just metal everywhere, Maria, who was our instructor explained why they made the level 45 (refuge). After we had a discussion about the refuge we moved on to level 61. Level 61 had the best view out of all levels. We walked out the elevator and Maria told us that apparently we could lean on the glass which I was afraid that the glass would smash if i were to lean on it. But then our student teacher Ms Woodhall helped me boost my confidence and lean on the window, IT WAS TERRIFYING but at the same time you have to face your fear.
After we had an adventure/exploring up at level 61 we had to go back to level 51. We walked into the elevator but this time there were no windows to look out of the elevator. It was just like a normal elevator. We went back to level 51 and had another adventure then had to take the elevator again to get back to the ground floor, we arrived at the ground floor and sat in 6 lines. Mrs Raj then asked Soane (Head Boy) to come up and say a little thank you to Maria & Cooper. Then we got on the bus and left.
It was such an amazing experience going up high and seeing all the Buildings in Auckland. I loved it so much that I'm still scared to this day!
Thank you & Hope you Enjoyed reading my experience on the Sky Tower.
On Monday Mrs Raj Gave us 3 Tasks and I have completed my first task which is about Vertebrates and Invertebrates and my second task is about Animals vs Plants. But I am Now Working on Task 3 about designing your own animals Here is my learning based on my project.

Challenge #4
Today Me and my group ( Tahi ) were given a Maths task about Finding the perimeter of rectangles. This was a bit of a warm for us. is was to find the perimeter of the Triangles. Heres how i worked my problems out.
On Monday me and my reading group were given an activity which was question we had to answer about Brown Brother which was a poem made by Joshua Iosefo. Joshua is a 17 year old who is a prefect at Auckland's mount Roscoe grammar. He made a inspiring speech about brown brother, brown brother is his way of saying he loves being brown and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. so here are the questions me and my were given and my answers:
Questions & Answers:
Who is Iosefa’s main audience?
Answer: His main audience is the world.
What was the purpose of his speech?
Answer: His speech is about what racism does.
Was he successful in sending his message to his target audience?
Answer: Yes, He was very successful in getting his message to his target audience.
What can we learn from his speech?
Answer: what i learned from that little speech was, to not be embarrassed by the colour of my skin and to be proud of being brown.
How many views has Iosefa had on his speech? Why do you think people have viewed his speech?
Answer: Joshua had gotten “216,753” views on his poem about brown brother. And I think people viewed his video because they wanted to help spread the word of being brown.
Is there evidence people do not agree with his speech? What are their arguments?
Answer: No, i don’t think that there is evidence that people disagree with him. If there is, I will never agree to what they say about the speech.
Today Mrs Tofa Asked me and my reading group to make up a poem about being brown, It took me awhile because i had to think alot about the words i had to use in this poem. Heres My Poem :)
Poem:
I’m proud to be brown,
Like the table which me and my family eat on,
I’m brown like the mud which kids play and jump in,
I’m brown like the bark on the tree that kids climb on,
I’m brown like the colour of the wood which you see everywhere,
I’m brown like the smoke buds my parents smoke and throw on to the garden,
I am proud to be brown like all of my family members
I am proud to be brown and I am proud to be an average brown girl who has goals and dreams to chase after. I never listen to the stereotypes about what white people say about us islanders/Polynesians.
I am proud to be brown because I was raised in a household with brown brothers and sisters. I'm proud to be brown because I was raised right with good, caring and loving parents and siblings.
I am proud to be brown people think im am just a brown kid with no goals, no future and no dreams
Today Me and my group ( Tahi ) were given a Maths task about Finding the perimeter of rectangles. This was a bit of a warm for us. is was to find the perimeter of the rectangles. Heres how i worked my problems out.

So today we had our Virtual maths and we were given a Problem and this is how I *tried Sovle it:
If Roimata allows 3 biscuits for each person and there are 12 biscuits in a packet, how many packets of biscuits does she need?
3 X 172 =
3 x 100 = 300 3 X 70 = 210 3 X 2 = 6 Total of Biscuits was= 516 516 / 12 = 43 So Roimata needs 43 packets of biscuits
ENJOY :/
On Friday 5th of February, was an interesting and fun day. We all had tons of fun, splashing water on each-other and spraying each-other with the hose and laughing and enjoying today.
First all the classes and students sat on the grass and the teachers started explaining to us the instructions for each and every activity. After the teacher explained to us the instructions we all got sent to our stations and waited for the bell to be rang. Room 7 got called and we all got up and went to our first game which was “ Lava Flow “ with Mrs Tofa (Our Teacher) and Mrs Raj (Deputy Principal). We waited for the bell to go so we could begin the games. 2 minutes later the bell rang and we ran on top of the bench, zig zagged around the cones and went through the hula hoop and ran and tipped the water into our buckets and waited for the bell to go so we could switch stations.
After the bell went again we switched and went to Mrs Atuahiva (Teacher Aid) and Mrs Pa’uvale (Teacher Aid) who were doing the water slide. As they were explaining the rules to us the bell went and the girls started while the boys waited in line. After we all had our turn of going down the slide the bell went and we all switched and we went to “SpongeBob” With Mrs Holmes and Mrs Ripata. The instructions were to wet the sponge and make the sponge over and under until it gets to the last person they have to run and squeeze the sponge into your house colouerd buckets and run back and redo what we just did.
After 5 rounds of running with the sponge the bell went and we had to go to the swimming pool with Whea Moana and Mrs Naidu. When we got there the teachers told us to find a partner so we could all have a race. I partnered up with Penelope and she got up on my back and we started running towards the other side and we had to swim back to the other side. After the race the teachers said we could have fun in the pool and just enjoy the swim. After 5 or 10 minutes of swimming the bell went and we went up to Mr Nath’s Station called “Holy Moly” the game is about running with a cup filled with water but had a lot of holes into which is why the game is called Holy Moly. We all had turns one by one and after the bell went we all got wet with the hose and then we finally got to our last activity which was with Mrs Maunel & Mrs Pome’e. Her one was to take a water balloon and walk across the benches and go over and under the desk and hop through the hula hoops and go through the hula hoop on the ground and walk around the bench and run to our house coloured bucket and pop the water balloon in the buckets and run back to our station.
After we finished our last activity, all the classes got called to the courts to present our house chants and to present the winning house. We all got to the courts and sat down in our house colours. I’m in blue ( Nikau ) and I am a house leader for the Nikau House and I really enjoy being a house leader and being a role model towards others. After Kauri (Green) and Kowhai (Yellow) had their turns with their chants it was our turn, me and Mason (The other House leader) got up and started our house chant, after we went it was Rata’s (Red’s) turn to do their chant. After every house had a turn with doing their chants it was time to say the winning house… We all waited for the teacher to present the winning house and 5 seconds after she shouted the winning house which was… KAURI !!!. It was an AMAZING day. On Friday I really enjoyed playing in the water and in the sun.
Last Week we had our first lesson of sewing. The yr 8’s were split into two groups. Group one had Me, Uinita, Taijah, Maria , Soane, Jino, Gideon, and Ali-jon. First Wheae told us what we’ll be making during this term. We decided to make pencil cases for a start
We got straight into sewing and Whaea showed us how to cut out our fabric, pin and sew. After her lesson we got started. We cut our fabrics the size we wanted, *the smaller your size the harder to sew*.
After we got our fabrics we went onto our zips. Everyone found a zip that is the same length as their cut out fabric. We then pinned our zips onto the fabric. Then after we pinned, we started sewing. We sewed and sewed ‘til we finished sewing the zips on.
Whaea gave us instructions to step 2, pinning the sides. We pinned what was needed to be pinned and then got onto sewing. Whaea showed us what needed to be sewed. We sewed a lot of times and after so many mistakes we finally succeeded. Thank you Whaea for teaching us how to make a pencil case.
Today Tahi was working with Mrs Tofa for maths and we learned a lot of interesting things like tidying up numbers and me and my group used place value partitioning to solve the maths question ' 923 - 587 '. It was hard but at the same time easy. When we all finished our maths problem each group got up and presented to everyone our math strategy and had to explain what we meant about the maths. Me and my group split up the numbers to try and make the math question easier to understand. And after we presented our maths strategy's that was the end of our maths!
swimming.
Today Room 7 had swimming at 9:40am with our swimming instructor to learn how to stay safe in case of big waves while swimming at a beach.
Our first lesson she taught us was how to catch your breath while swimming. She said “when you need to catch your breath while swimming, you have to roll on your back then roll back on your stomach after you have caught your breath”. After she explained they all started following the instructions.
After lesson one she told us lesson two. The second lesson was: swimming on top of the water then diving down. She started explaining it to the class and demonstrated for them. She said “first youse start swimming slowly on the top then once youse hear the whistle get ready to dive in and pull yourself down while swimming”.
After she had finished explaining lesson two she moved on to lesson three: which was “hand signals”. She said “first you lay face down into the water then once you guys hear the whistle you have to roll onto you back and put one hand up and leave you other hand under and try to find me and swim to me”. After she explained everyone tried it out and a lot of people were struggling but then they started to understand.
For the last lesson she taught was about: waves. She said “the most dangerous thing about swimming at a beach is the waves, waves are big and scary so i’m going to ask the boys to line up on the wall of the pool and start pushing up and down to make big waves for the girls to swim through” all the boys started pushing up against the walls creating big waves. After the girls went it was the boys' turn to swim through the waves. The girls lined up against the wall and started pushing against the walls creating big waves for the boy to swim through. After every did their part it was time to get out and that was the end of swimming.
